Posted By on April 13, 2011

Emphasizing the dangerous and sometimes deadly consequences of

driving while distracted, PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch, P.E., today urged all motorists to focus only on driving while behind the wheel.

“Any time a driver diverts their attention from the task of driving – even for a second – they put themselves and others at unnecessary risk,” Schoch said, noting that April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. “Driving is a skill that demands 100 percent of your attention, 100 percent of the time.”

Bradford City Offers Parking Permits to Exempt Vehicles from Paying Meters

Posted By on February 11, 2011

Over the last several months City Council and myself have worked to develop a “Parking Permit” that would allow the holder of the permit to concentrate more on your daily activities and  business and avoid the cumbersome issue of worrying about keeping the meter current or leaving work for the day to find a parking ticket on your vehicle. This idea was brought to fruition from the many requests of downtown business owners and employees.

Listed below are a few things to keep in mind if you do in fact decide to purchase a permit.

    -          The permit exempts the vehicle in which it is displayed from paying the meter

4 Bradford City Firefighters Resign, Foster Township Supervisors Resign

Posted By on December 29, 2010

Comment and Opinion from the Editor

With the retirement of four senior employees of the fire department one might start to wonder why so many people are jumping ship. The popular answer is that corruption is the fuel behind the firefighters resigning as well as the Foster Township Supervisors.  It is my opinion that this could not be any farther from the truth.

I think that all of these retirements come because of many different reasons.  The first reason that I see as a possibility is the added stress of the jobs now that the economy has tanked.  When things go wrong citizens need someone to blame and a lot of this blame has fallen on the fire department and the supervisors themselves.  While the Code Enforcement was admittedly poor, I don’t think that all of the condition of Bradford and it’s surrounding areas can be blamed solely on the Code Enforcement officers.  People are lacking a major element that used to make neighborhoods look nice.  Pride was a major reason that most people keep their homes looking the way that they should, not the threat of a fine from the Code Enforcement department.  Landlords that don’t care about the conditions that their tenants live in as long as they get their rent check is a HUGE FACTOR.  I can remember that even as a renter I was proud of my home and made sure that the lawn was cut and even if my landlord could not make it to make a repair quickly, I would do the repair myself.

Keep in mind that these firefighters did not resign simply because they could not deal with the pressure anymore.  They also resigned with a retirement package that our Mayor, Tom Riel, referred to as a “fruit basket.”
